Spartanburg School District Six Honors 10 Terrific Kids
Spartanburg School District Six announced the Terrific Kid of the Year honorees for its elementary schools. The event, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and Zaxby’s, is held each year and honors one child from each elementary school in Spartanburg County.
Ten students were celebrated this year:

- Allyson Castillo-Garcia — Arcadia Elementary School
- Kalua Beckett — Child Development Center
- Nora Omer — Fairforest Elementary School
- Yulieth Fuentes-Trejo — Jesse S. Bobo Elementary School
- Samantha Garcia — Lone Oak Elementary School
- Emily Guydyk — Pauline-Glenn Springs Elementary School
- Julie Tirado — Roebuck Elementary School
- London Belgrave — West View Elementary School
- Nasim Ashford — Woodland Heights Elementary School

Barnet Park Rules Set for Today’s Spartanburg Event
Spartanburg’s Parks, Recreation & Special Events office reminded attendees of rules for an event at Barnet Park. The city said there will be no coolers or outside food, and pets and smoking are not allowed.

Spartanburg Fire Department to Train at Kanpai Site
The Spartanburg Fire Department said its crews will conduct training exercises at a Kanpai property starting June 22, 2026, before demolition begins. The department thanked Clayton Construction Company, Demtek, and the property owners for allowing the training.

Spartanburg Schools says its D6 Summer Reading Camp theme is “Plant a Seed: Read!” The school district credits books, hands-on learning, and personalized reading support for helping students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers.

Spartanburg Police Corrects Rumors About Shooting
Spartanburg Police said incorrect information is spreading about a shooting earlier today. The department confirmed the shooting occurred on Whitlock Street and not at Cleveland Academy of Leadership or the T.K. Gregg Community Center.

Jasmine Guillory Appears at Spartanburg Library
Spartanburg County Public Libraries said Jasmine Guillory visited its Headquarters Library in downtown Spartanburg last Friday. The library described the evening as “Ladies Night Out” with questions, laughter, and “a hint of spice.”
