FEMA Assistance Application Steps for Hurricane Helene Victims
Staff Report / Spartanburglocal.org
Individuals affected by Hurricane Helene may be eligible to apply for FEMA assistance online. The first step is for the President to declare Individual Assistance for certain areas in the state affected by the disaster.
To determine eligibility, individuals can visit disasterassistance.gov and click on “Let’s Get Started.” This will prompt a series of questions to find out if they can apply.
Once eligibility is confirmed, applicants must create an account on Login.Gov. This account allows them to save the application to complete later, check the status of their application, and upload necessary documents.
Applicants should gather personal information, including home, mailing, and email addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers (SSN), as well as banking and insurance information before filling out the application.
The application requires detailed information, but individuals can log back into their account later to provide any additional information if needed.
After filling out the application, applicants should review their entries and send the application to FEMA. It is important to save the Application ID, as this will be necessary for any communication with FEMA.
Following submission, FEMA will review the application. If more information or an inspection of the home is necessary, FEMA may reach out to the applicant for additional details.
FEMA will notify applicants via email regarding the status of their application. For more information, individuals can visit the FEMA website at disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362. Additionally, the FEMA App is available for download to help with the application process.
