Spartanburg Volunteers Sought for Trail Cleanup Saturday

Staff Report / Spartanburglocal.org

Spartanburg, SC, is organizing volunteer opportunities to clear trails that were damaged by Hurricane Helene. Two local organizations, PAL: Play Advocate Live Well and the Spartanburg Area Conservancy (SPACE), are coordinating efforts to restore the trails.

On Saturday, October 12th, PAL will lead a clean-up effort on the Mary H. Wright Greenway from 9 AM to 11 AM. Volunteers are asked to meet at South Converse Park, located at 417 S Converse St. PAL will provide gloves and hand tools, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own wheelbarrows, flat-nosed shovels, pitchforks, rakes, or other useful tools.

SPACE also has two clean-up events scheduled for the same date and time. Volunteers can choose to assist at the Glendale Shoals Preserve, meeting at the Goodall Center, or at the Cottonwood Trail, starting at the Beechwood Drive entrance. Participants are advised to wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves, loppers, hand saws, and additional tools to help remove limbs and debris.

For more ways to contribute to community recovery efforts, individuals can visit the United Way of the Piedmont's resource page at https://www.uwpiedmont.org/unitedforall.
